If you’re looking for an energizing and refreshing breakfast, this delicious green energy bowl will not disappoint you. Especially after a hot summer night, there is nothing better than to hydrate your body with a cold, juicy drink. Now, if you like smoothies and smoothie bowls as much as I do, you’re going to love this one! It is the perfect combination of sweet, juicy fruits with dark leafy greens and will boost your energy levels. If you have been following my blog and Instagram for a while, you probably know that there is not a day without at least one big mason jar full of a yummy smoothie or a smoothie bowl topped with my all time favourite fruits. It’s just such a fast and healthy meal and besides that, a great way to get those greens in! 🙂
The secret for making a super creamy, thick and ice cold smoothie bowl lies in the frozen fruit. Instead of adding crushed ice into your blender, simply use frozen bananas and mangos and voila! You’ll get the perfect consistency. Also, personally I like to sweeten my smoothies with natural sweeteners like dates or really ripe fruit (spotted bananas are the best). It will neutralize the bitter taste from the leafy greens and make the smoothie much more enjoyable.
This smoothie is one of my absolute favourites, and that’s not just because of the taste. I’ve had an iron-deficiency all my life so when I don’t take supplements on a regular basis (never have been a big fan of pills) I try to include more iron-rich foods like spinach. When consuming plant based foods that are high in iron, it is important to also eat vitamin C at the same time, as it helps with absorption. That’s where the mango comes in. It’s not only full of antioxidants but also very rich in vitamin C. That’s why this smoothie is simply amazing and a great way to start your day!
I always top it with my favourite fruits, fresh and dried, but feel free to change them with whatever you have at home. I’ve listed some ideas below to help you out, as those are the ones I usually have at home and use.
