Good news – I’ve decided that I’m gonna dedicate a whole section on this blog to healthy smoothies! So from now on I’m gonna upload a series of my favourite smoothies with you, one after another. Now, I gotta say that I usually drink smoothies in the morning or before lunch (as a snack), when I’m really hungry. Also, I sometimes quickly blend up a smoothie and take it to the beach in the early afternoon, because it’s super refreshing and I usually get hungry at the beach! 🙂
Truth is I absolutely love smoothies and drink them almost every day of the week (or eat them as smoothie bowls with yummy toppings). I prefer eating fresh fruits in the morning, as it really refreshes and fuels my body after a long night of sleep, without making me feel unnecessary heavy. Also, it really helps me with digestion!
This one is my absolute favourite at the moment. My lovely aunt gave me the idea of combining oranges with blueberries and I’ve been drinking it ever since! So refreshing and such a great combination! The ingredients are quite simple, but I like to add in some extra molasses, chia seeds, and maca powder to get some additional nutrients in (especially the blackstrap molasses goes perfectly with the vitamin c of the oranges as it helps with the absorption process).
Quick tip: if you add in chia seeds to your smoothies, make sure to drink them immediately as the chia thickens up quite fast.
Since lots of you have been asking about where to find the reusable bamboo straws I’m using in my smoothie videos, you can get easily get them from Amazon. The link is below in the recipe under the ‘extra’ section! I can highly recommend them as I’m using the same ones! They are SO much better than plastic straws and also look really pretty! 🙂
Just make sure, that after using them you immediately clean them with hot warm water, as it might get tough to clean them later on!
I’ve developed a real dislike for plastic straws and bags and try to avoid them whenever possible! It’s pretty easy, and although the overall impact might be small (compared to the whole world population), it gives me the feeling of being able to control what I want to support as a consumer. After all, we don’t realize most of the times that we, as consumers, have the power to make changes. If we decide not to buy certain products anymore, the market will adapt to our demands. Not because they are so environmental/animal-friendly, but because they want to continue making money – very simple! So don’t forget that you have the power to make changes and if something is bothering you, stop supporting it with your money and start looking for alternatives! 🙂
