Hi there, friend!
In case you’re new here, I’m Kirsten – the founder & creative foodie of ‘The Tasty K’. Thank you so much for being here!
This blog initially started as a food diary to share my newly found passion for the plant-based kitchen and its many benefits for your health, the planet and animals.
Back in 2015, the vegan online world looked vastly different from now with way fewer resources available, so it became my goal to create easy-to-follow, delicious and nourishing recipes that would be accessible for anyone. It still blows my mind to think that we’re now a community of over half a million people from across the globe!
Frequently Asked Questions
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
Los Angeles, CA. Although my family home is a small town in Germany, I’ve been living abroad for most of my adult life – forever chasing the sun.
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE SOCIAL MEDIA?
I have a B.A. in European Studies from Maastricht University (Netherlands) as well as an M.A. in Conflict Resolution from Reichman University (Israel). I started this platform while finishing my MA studies and jumped right into self-employment from there.
3 INGREDIENTS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
Tahini, garlic, lemon
3 SPICES YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
Cinnamon, za’atar, freshly ground black pepper
WHEN & WHY DID YOU GO VEGAN?
I switched to a fully plant-based diet in mid 2015 after a few years of struggling with several health issues. I always preferred veggies and pasta as a kid and was never a particular fan of meat per se, so it felt natural for me to just stop. I had some on-and-off periods with dairy, eggs and
fish but eventually ditched them after learning more about the reality of factory farming and marine -and wildlife extinction.
WHAT BRINGS YOU JOY IN LIFE?
Movement & animals. My happy place is being outside in nature with my dog. I love hiking, long walks, bike rides, skating, and basically anything outdoorsy and fun. When traveling to a new place, I’d choose camping over a fancy hotel anytime. My workouts of choice are running, yoga and, since recently, resistance training. On weekends, you’ll probably find me browsing the nearest farmers or flea market and trying out new vegan hotspots in town.
COFFEE OR TEA?
Matcha + kombucha
