Hi there – I’m Kirsten!
I am the vegan foodie & travel enthusiast behind ‘The Tasty K’. Thank you so much for being here!
I’m the recipe developer as well as content creator behind everything you see on here. I am currently based in Berlin, Germany but throughout the year you’ll probably find me adventuring to warmer places.
I create colorful plant-based recipes as well as exclusive travel guides from all over the world, combining my passion for healthy (and sometimes less healthy) vegan food with a more sustainable approach to traveling. My main goal is to inspire you to get creative in the kitchen and lead a healthier, more conscious lifestyle.
If I’m not in the kitchen whipping up new recipes you’ll probably find me out in nature spending time with my dog Luna, shopping at the farmers market or exploring new vegan food spots!
MY STORY

I grew up in Germany on a pretty standard Western diet, including meat, dairy, eggs, fish and lots of refined sugars, but it wasn’t until my mid 20’s that I discovered my love for healthy plant-based eating, after feeling unwell and struggling with binge-eating for years.
After moving to Mexico at age 16 I gained about 10 kg in the span of a year (hola empanadas) and developed a pretty unhealthy relationship with food, trying one unsuccessful diet after the other and feeling completely stuck in a cycle of binge eating and severe restriction. Shortly after beginning my MA studies in Israel in 2015 I got introduced to the vegan diet and made the switch overnight.
At this point I had already cut out meat completely from my diet (ever since my time in Mexico) but was still consuming all other animal products. In addition to my mental struggles with food I was also fighting iron deficiency (and the consequent drops in energy) with high sugar consumption to stop feeling tired all the time – a never ending cycle!

Initially, my move towards a vegan diet and lifestyle was mostly for ethical reasons (after watching the documentary ‘Earthlings’ and crying my eyes out for hours). Very soon, however, I noticed major health improvements and a much deeper connection and love for the foods I was eating. After adapting a diet centering whole food plant-based ingredients I got rid of my iron deficiency, had so much energy and the extra kilos just kept on falling off without any effort.
It was then that my newly found appreciation for food and the healing power of plants turned into a career. Ever since I am determined to share my passion with the world, inspire others to dump unhealthy habits and get creative to explore the wonders and exciting flavors of the plant based kitchen!
I know that change can be hard so I’m trying to focus on positivity, love and non-judgement – sharing delicious recipes that are good for your body, soul, the animals and environment (yay!).
